Vestavia Hills and the April 2011 Storms
An EF1 tornado struck Vestavia Hills directly on April 11, 2011, and the historic April 27, 2011 outbreak brought an EF2 tornado through the nearby Cahaba Heights area with 20 injuries -- a stretch of severe weather the city weathered just decades after its November 8, 1950 incorporation. Vestavia Hills takes its name from George B. Ward's 1925 hilltop home built in the style of the Roman Temple of Vesta.
