Pelham's 1973 and 1994 Tornadoes
Pelham has been hit by tornadoes more than once since incorporating in 1964 -- an F2 tore through the city on March 16, 1973, and another F2 injured 53 people on a path from Helena through Pelham to Inverness on March 27, 1994. Much of Pelham's housing was built during the decades that followed along the I-65 growth corridor, so storm repairs and new construction have often happened side by side.
Water Damage Response in Pelham's Newer Subdivisions
Newer construction isn't storm-proof -- wind-driven rain during a severe thunderstorm can get behind siding or through a roof vent on a 1980s or 1990s Pelham home just as easily as on an older one. What matters most afterward is how fast the water is extracted and how completely the framing and insulation are dried before mold has a chance to start.
